Why we’re a worthy cause

Saint Robert Southwell dedicated his life to sustain Catholics in a hostile environment, and was martyred for it.  We are not that far down yet in America, but we have an openly hostile culture toward Christians.  While the sacraments will always be the center of the Catholic life, enabling Catholic families to have a more fully realized domestic church and opportunities for fellowship is also important.

To that end, Southwell Media is offering high-quality literature for Catholics to share in families, schools, and parish communities.  We hope to assist in the creation of a vibrant Catholic culture that seeks God’s light, Jesus’ truth, and the fullness of the faith through His Church.  Our area of specialization is science fiction.  We believe that for at least a generation the Catholic science fiction audience has been underserved, and we wish to fix that.

Projects

1. Robert Hugh Benson Award for Short Science Fiction;

2. Catholic Study Editions of classic science fiction;

3. Support of new science fiction that is appropriate for tweens, teens, young adults, and all ages;

4. Video series highlighting Catholic authors and creators in discussion about their process and the importance of Catholic arts; and

5. Games for families and trading cards for children to foster Catholic culture.

 

Costs we have/anticipate

• IRS costs for software/professional help: $650/year

• Artwork for books so far: $1250

• Professional email addresses & cloud storage: $120/year

• Website and domain: $200/year

• ISBN and bar codes: $500 for our first 5 books

• We also know our website would be more effective if we could hire a professional.
